THE STORY OF WoodWorkHER
A busy girl, chasing her dreams.
My name is Emma Laufenberg, and I started this business because I had numerous ideas for wooden creations but lacked the means to execute and sell them through my existing company. By launching this new venture, I've found a way to explore the ideas that swirl around in my head. Since then, I've been honing my skills with a scroll saw and creating things I never thought I could make. I genuinely love the creativity this business has allowed me to express, and I feel incredibly fortunate to share it with all of you.
I grew up on my family farm and am the fifth generation to work there. At the age of 14, I started my first business, EL Barn Quilts, which I still own and operate today. Starting that business at such a young age taught me valuable lessons about hard work and perseverance. I managed that business while going through high school and college, and after earning my accounting degree in 2019, I knew I wanted to take my entrepreneurial journey to the next level.
I work tirelessly to market myself and my business, and in 2020, I came up with the idea for WoodworkHER. I chose that name because when I went to purchase wood or tools, people often assumed they weren’t for me because of my age and gender. Woodworking is a predominantly male industry, and I wanted to highlight that a woman is behind this work. For 2023, I set a goal to dedicate as much effort to this business as I once did with EL Barn Quilts in 2019. So, I began building! When I started this business, the goal was to be able to purchase a CO2 laser someday, well.... in Nov 2024 I DID!! I got it up in running in April of 2025 and have been enjoying learning all about it and starting to make new items each month!
This website showcases just the beginning of my ideas. I invite you to join me on this new journey and see what I can create!
